OK, I've done another drawing. It's up to you to come up with a story to go with it. What do you think is going on in this picture? If you have any ideas leave a comment or two.

OK. Whenever the girl looks at the bookshelf she sees only books but when she turns away there's a skeleton skull there. So what difference does it make if it's only there when she can't see it? Actually it makes a lot of difference because, though she can't see it (because she is looking away), she hears it saying, "Ha, ha, ha. I am going to eat you. Ha, ha, ha." She tried to tell her friend about it but no one ever sees the skull so the friend said she was crazy. Then one day the friend came in and found that the girl had been eaten and only her bones were left. The friend put the girl's skull on the shelf and when she turned around she heard two voices saying, "Ha, ha, ha. We are going to eat you. Ha, ha, ha." When she looked back she saw nothing.

Yes, and even though she couldn't see it she knew it was a skull because it clacked when it spoke and had a hollow sound. Of course the second girl had to tell a friend who in turn thought she was crazy and so eventually there were three skulls on the shelf and so on.

Though, I enjoy Tomas's rendition of the drawing I have a different interpretation. The girl seems sad, lonely even. I think the skull is her dead husband. She kept the skull after his death as a reminder of him. Now it sits there on the shelf in the basement as a reminder of her past life, where she has been and who she was with.

Thanks Kate. I'm glad for your insight. Another person, Jane, pointed out the pathos in the picture. She suggested that the skull may sometimes be inhabited by the spirit of the girl's grandfather, and that the girl could at this moment possibly be telling him of the bad day she was having. You see, I put pencil marks on paper...you all are bringing them alive. Cool!
